Despite its lighthearted melody and upbeat rhythm, “All Andra” (All the Others) addresses a serious theme: the struggle with fatigue and a longing for community. Buoyed by a lilting African-inspired guitar riff and tight vocal harmonies, Kolonien sings, “Like soil hoping for the rain / I’m longing for place and community / But walls will need to fall down / So dreams could be freed for both of us.”
The colorful music video that accompanies the song might remind listeners of a certain age of the opening credits for The Brady Bunch, but despite their inspirations from the past, Kolonien is an exciting, forward looking band whose sound will appeal to fans of Mumford & Sons, Fleet Foxes, Of Monsters & Men and others that blend folk traditions with contemporary pop.
